What is a Housing Development Corporation?

A Housing Development Corporation is a 501 (c)(3). HDC Monterey is a nonprofit that builds affordable housing by bringing together developers, grants, and investors, it is not a governmental agency.

Is HDC Monterey The Housing Authority?

No, we are not The Housing Authority of Monterey County. HDC Monterey Works closely with the Housing Authority but we are separate. HDC Monterey builds new affordable housing and renovates existing affordable housing.

Why isn’t HDC Monterey a part of the Housing Authority?

Around the country, Housing Development Corporations work hand-in-hand with Housing Authorities. They are independent as it allows the flexibility to more efficiently produce affordable housing.

Why isn’t there enough affordable housing in Monterey County

The lack of affordable housing within our country is an epidemic and is especially acute in California and Monterey County. Long-term solutions need to come from national, state, and local governments to address the severe housing shortages.
